Winston churchill painting comments11/21/2023 ![]() Since his stroke a couple of years ago, Marr has become an advocate for amateur art, especially drawing, as a physically and mentally therapeutic pastime. It is obligatory for all documentaries these days to be as much about the presenter as the subject, and this was no exception. ![]() Marr, of course, was explaining all this while having a go with a magic lantern himself. Walter Sickert taught Churchill how to use a magic lantern to project a photograph onto a canvas. He was a real fanboy, hanging around their studios and inviting them for tea. This is proved, said Marr, by his friendships with painters, among them William Orpen and William Nicholson. It was a jarring note in a programme that otherwise tried to argue that Churchill took art, and artists, very seriously indeed.Īndrew Marr presents ‘Winston Churchill: Blood, Sweat and Oil Paint’ on BBC 4 ‘He was both modest about his own work and respectful of that of others, whether famous or obscure, and whether he admired it or not.’ĭid Andrew Marr read Mary Soames’ book before making his documentary, Winston Churchill: Blood, Sweat and Oil Paint (BBC 4)? If so, he either skipped that chapter or decided the anecdote was too good to pass up, as he related it uncritically. ![]() It would have been ‘quite out of character’ for Churchill to say such a thing about Picasso, according to his daughter, Mary Soames, who relates the tale in her book, Churchill: His Life as Painter (1990). I know you speak on the impulse of the moment, but I protest nonetheless against these utterances.’ I do not think we have ever walked up a street together, and anyhow this is not the sort of statement that should be attributed to me. The anecdote, apparent evidence that the Royal Academy president was not just pally with the ex-PM and amateur painter, but a kindred spirit, went down a treat with guests at an RA dinner in 1949.Ĭhurchill, however, was not best pleased, writing to Munnings afterwards: ‘I … heard with surprise your statement that we were walking up the street together when I spoke to you about kicking Picasso if we met him. ‘What would you do if you saw Picasso walking in front of you down Piccadilly?’ Sir Alfred Munnings asked Winston Churchill. T 400 transmission11/21/2023 ![]() It is shown here re-assembled with the reaction carrier and sun gear ready to be re-assembled. Refer to manual for checking procedures and specs. I disassemble the rear output shaft from the output ring gear and clean and inspect the planets. On a T-400 (unless it has straight cut planetary gears) the planets will try to thrust load against the case bearing and the center support. It is best to adjust rear end play on the tight side. The total thickness of the bearing as compared to the thrust and selective is very close, it is usually about 0.150". You set rear end play using T-350 pump shims as pictured on the left here: This torrington bearing replaces the stock thrust washer and rear selective tang washer in the T-400. I use a T-350 pump - direct drum bearing from a later style T-350. If you plan on using a rear torrington-type bearing you want to place the bushing ever so slightly protruding to the front, so that it will locate the bearing. Use a stock bushing with red loctite and staked in place. There is a "fix" bushing for this that has a thrust surface on the front that prevents the bushing from walking. Pictured here driving the bushing out towards the front.Ī T-400 and 4L80E used in heavy towing will sometimes cause the rear bushing to "walk" to the rear, ruining the governor gear. If you drop the "nail" in the case, or anything else, it is very frustrating later on to disassemble.Ī universal cam bearing tool can be used to replace many bushings in the various automatics. You want to do this before you have the trans internals assembled. If you do not have the tool or wish to buy it, now is DEFINITELY the time to change the seal, it requires removal of the linkage. It is relatively inexpensive and can be used without pan removal with the transmission in the car.īe sure to lube the seal before re-installing, and take care not to cut it on the edges of the shifter shaft. Pictured here is a tool that allows removing the shift shaft seal without removal of the parking linkage. Recommended is an ATSG rebuild manual, and How to Rebuild & Modify GM Turbo 400 Transmissions (S-A Design Workbench Series), and this post for those new to transmissions.īesides the basic rebuild, also shown here are some modifications that are not usually required, but are still good to do.Īfter you have disassembled your trans and cleaned the mostly bare case, I recommend you change the shift shaft seal, kick down connector O-ring, and rear case bushing. First time builders will likely need a tech manual. This information and photos are meant to help those who wish to rebuild their own transmission, however this is not intended to be a replacement for an ATSG or factory tech manual. There would be greater HP loss with a deeper gearset all else being equal because of the rate of acceleration. ![]() The HP loss from additonal mass is more affected by HOW FAST you are trying to accelerate (or decel) the mass.Ī car with 3.08's accelerates the trans internals, driveshaft, and engine slower than a car with 5.14's. In reality, a 12 second car will never see an ET gain or loss changing between the two transmissions.Ī low 10 second car MIGHT see a slight loss with a TH400 but I've even seen some gain. It happens that that weight difference is entirely the difference in rotating mass.ġ0 lbs is a considerable mass and it would seem that it would take more HP to ACCELERATE it. The TH350 and TH400 have 10 lbs overall weight difference. However to accelerate the additional mass DOES require more power.Įveryone seems to think that the 10 lb heavier TH400 eats up HP considerably over a TH350. THIS is where everyone seems to forget their high school lessons. At steady RPM, assuming the same frictional and pumping losses, the HP to turn a 25 lb rotating mass is the same as to turn a 2500 lb mass. It takes a certain amount of HP to "turn" the internals. The next "HP loss" is caused by rotating mass. A TH350 and TH400, the 400 may (IMO does) have less frictional loss in 2nd and 3rd than a TH350. This occurs in many cases and changes with gear changes. The largest amount of frictional loss happens when driving through a clutch pack. The planets are pretty much out of play in direct (usually 3rd). Bushings, thrust washers and bearings, planetary gears all create frictional losses. Lower pressure equals less wear, HP loss, and better MPG. OEM's consider this when designing a trans. If you are making 100 psi, you are not losing as much HP as 300 psi. The amount of loss will also depend on how much pressure you are making. As the RPM goes up, the HP loss will go up slightly. This is happening anytime the engine is running and the torque converter is turning. HP loss through a transmission is several things. Top fpv drone kit11/21/2023 And the light-pipes in the arms of the Evoque make them a bit less durable than the arms of the Nazgul.Īs good as the Evoque is, some part of me resented the “consumer-ification” of the FPV hobby that I love. The Nazgul has a 30mm-sized FC and ESC, which I think are more durable than the 20mm size in the Evoque. The Evoque is polished and shiny, with molded plastic parts and LEDs. When they later released the Evoque, I was a little bit sad. The Nazgul was one of iFlight’s first 5” bind-n-fly freestyle quads. It’s just a great, all-round five-inch freestyle quad. It doesn’t have the high-strung responsiveness of the AOS5, or the consumer-focused refinement of the Evoque. Of all the bind-n-fly 5” freestyle quads on this list, the GEPRC Mark5 might be the truest to the pure 5” freestyle experience that comes from building your own quad. The best part is that the GEPRC Mark5 is available with almost any video system you prefer analog, DJI O3, DJI v2, and even Walksnail! The analog version has a powerful 1.6W video transmitter, for maximum range. Their SPAN F722-BT-HD V2 even has built-in Bluetooth so you can configure it wirelessly from your phone. GEPRC hasn’t skimped on the flight controller either. But GEPRC ships with legitimate Ethix S5 props – some of the best you can get. Some manufacturers would cut corners on the props by shipping with a self-made copy of somebody else’s design. But this slightly narrower, slightly taller motor actually performs amazingly! And durability was great in my (admittedly limited) testing. ![]() GEPRC’s choice of motor surprised me at first: 2107.5 dimensions feel like numbers picked out of a hat for marketing purposes. The metal front end also has a dedicated section so you don’t have to disassemble the whole top plate to add or remove an action camera. 7075 aluminum front end protects the camera and doesn’t flinch at hard crashes. The “squashed-X” geometry keeps propellers out of your FPV camera view without compromising balanced freestyle handling. The frame balances light weight and durability perfectly and looks great too. GEPRC might be best known for its Cinewhoops, but the Mark5 deserves way more attention than it seems to get. This is especially good if you’re using the O3 camera to record footage, and not just to see where you’re flying. The D geometry pushes the front motors out and back a little bit so that they’re not visible in the FPV camera. For pure freestyle goodness, we recommend the X geometry. The Evoque comes in either X geometry or D geometry. ![]() ![]() The analog vTX has a whopping 1.6W of output power, so you’ll get plenty of range compared to competitors with weaker vTX. The Evoque is available with either the DJI O3 video transmitter or an analog vTX and camera. The light pipes going down the center of the arms make the Evoque a tiny bit less durable than some comparable frames. Some would say that the light-up side plates are just in the way, or another part to break. The whole thing is carefully put together in exactly a certain way, and it’s kind of resistant to being any other way than iFlight made it. The downside of the Evoque’s refinement is that it’s a little harder to repair and maintain. They’re thinking about problems that pilots face and trying to solve them. Little touches like an anti-spark device on the battery plug show that iFlight isn’t just building another “hobby-grade” quadcopter. They make it feel like a Real Product, with molded plastic walls and LED lights built into the body. iFlight isn’t content to just make a fast, agile, and durable quadcopter. ![]() The Nazgul Evoque is one of the most refined 5” freestyle quads you can buy. 1968 thunderbird hood scoop11/21/2023 Unlimited Products SC-110-3 T-Bird BubbleĪnd, of course, Summit Racing has more than few parts for attaching to hoods in some fashion.
